The University of Montpellier’s initiatives are fully aligned with this spirit. Student GuideDownload Student Life Master PlanDownload Meet, Grow, Share Across all campuses and in spaces dedicated to student life, numerous initiatives provide opportunities to have fun, relax, and develop transferable skills that are essential for academic success. The University of Montpellier also welcomes many international students, who fully contribute to the richness and diversity of campus life. Cultural and sports activities, student organizations, and festive events: everything is designed to foster social connections, personal growth, and a smooth academic journey. A specific and innovative annual program, titled “Boost Your English,” is offered to all students. It consists of a variety of activities led by English-speaking instructors that allow students to practice English for free in a fun way (tours of Montpellier, weekend trips, pottery workshops, etc.). Art workshops are regularly organized, particularly during vacation periods, to introduce students to new skills or help them improve: painting, theater, photography, botanical drawing, etc. Listening, Supporting, Taking Action The university also provides essential support for students facing difficulties. Whether it’s about breaking out of isolation, dealing with a precarious situation, or receiving psychological or social support, several services are available to listen to and support them. The Office of Student Life (BVE), a true driving force behind campus life, coordinates, organizes, and supports numerous initiatives within the university. All of these initiatives are made possible in large part by the Student and Campus Life Contribution (CVEC). Finally, the Student Initiative Solidarity and Development Fund (FSDIE) supports both student association initiatives and students facing difficulties.

Association of Friends of Scientific and Technical Collections
Content type: Page
Why did the need for such an association arise? Because these collections are vast and diverse, and the need to preserve and promote them has not always been a priority for the University or research institutions. Institutional recognition of these collections is relatively recent, and a formal collections department (now SPH), for example, was not established (at the then-UM2) until 2004, and even then with limited staff resources. Staff members who were aware of the issue then came together to form the association. The question of their status (prior to the association’s creation) had been raised on several occasions with the legal departments of the Ministry of Higher Education and Research, which did not want to hear about “volunteers” within an institutional framework; the association was therefore established in September 2004. In what capacity do the members of the Association participate? As experts: Their expertise (thatProfessors, researchers, advanced students, doctoral candidates, practitioners, and technical staff who have had, or have some connection to, these collections, as well as knowledgeable enthusiasts) can be put to use at various levels: regarding the objects themselves, their conservation, and their promotion for and through research (making them available to researchers or participating in research, scientific publications, etc.), as well as their promotion through the selection and presentation of objects to contribute to the dissemination of scientific culture (exhibitions, science workshops, conferences, etc.). The AACST is a partner and is not subordinate to any University department: Its scope of activity was clearly defined at the time of its creation, both by its founders and by the University (with the approval of the overseeing ministry) and its Collections Department at the time. However, of course, any work on the University’s collections (and by delegation, under the responsibility of the Historical Heritage Department or a research laboratory) may only be carried out with the approval of the SPH or the research laboratory.
