The Montpellier Universe and Particles Laboratory (LUPM) is dedicated to the study of the Universe as a whole and in its smallest dimensions. At LUPM, researchers and faculty members study fundamental building blocks—from the most elementary particles, atoms, and molecules to the largest and oldest gravitational structures, such as stars and galaxies. Organized into three scientific teams, the scope of research at LUPM is vast and covers broad areas of theoretical physics, fundamental and observational astrophysics, including the physics of the early universe, the study of elementary particle properties, the nature of dark matter, the sources of high-energy cosmic rays, the formation of the first molecules in the Universe, the structure and evolution of stars, as well as their interaction with the interstellar medium. L2C is a physics laboratory distinguished by its ability to bring together, within a single unit, a wide range of expertise spanning from highly mathematical theoretical physics to physical chemistry and biophysics, with a strong foundation in fundamental research focused on condensed matter and nanosciences. The Montpellier Alexander Grothendieck Institute (IMAG) is a joint research unit of the CNRS and the University of Montpellier with nearly 170 members, located on the University’s Triolet campus. Research at IMAG covers a very broad spectrum, ranging from fundamental mathematics to industrial applications, including educational theory and epistemology. The laboratory is organized into four research teams: Geometry, Topology, and Algebra (GTA); Analysis, Industrial Scientific Computing, and Optimization of Montpellier (ACSIOM); Probability and Statistics (EPS); Mathematics Education and Epistemology (DEMa). It also includes a joint project team with Inria and HydroSciences Montpellier, the Lemon team, created in January 2019. The research activities conducted at IMAG position it as one of the leading hubs for mathematics and its applications in southern France.
