Winner of the ASDESR1 Call for Proposals With substantial funding of over 3.6 million euros, the Moment-UM project is part of the fourth “France 2030” Investment Plan for the Future, launched by the National Agency for Research (ANR) Research . This project aims to strengthen the position of theUM as a key player in European research, continuing education, and innovation through various lines of action. Europe Moment-UM seeks to boost the participation of researchers from theUM in the Horizon Europe program (European Framework Program for Research and Innovation). ERC (European Research Council Research) grants, Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions, and the EIC (European Innovation Council) are key instruments. The objective is twofold: to increase the number of projects submitted and to improve the success rate.  Working closely with three national research organizations based in the Montpellier area (CNRS, INSERM, and IRD), Moment-UM is committed to increasing the visibility and support for research teams at the Montpellier site through: Strengthening the support staff by hiring new experts. Providing personalized support for project proposal writing.  Training and coordinating experts. Increased communication and visibility regarding funding and projects. Training Moment’UM aims to strengthen the University of Montpellier’s position in the professional training market to enhance the professional development of students, researchers, and professionals.  This component focuses on developing short-term training programs and institutional degrees to meet the specific needs of businesses, through: The creation of new training programs and degrees. The promotion of a competency-based approach. The implementation of group-based pathways for the Validation of Acquired Experience (VAE). Bio’Occ is a government-funded project under the France 2030 plan. This regionally focused initiative aims to attract, train, and retain the talent and key players of tomorrow by developing specialized training programs in the fields of biotherapies and bioproduction. At a time when this sector is experiencing growing development in Occitanie, as well as nationwide, Bio’Occ addresses a specific need among manufacturers facing recruitment challenges. By creating a dynamic and innovative ecosystem, this project promises to transform the region’s biotechnology landscape, while supporting business growth and preparing tomorrow’s professionals to meet future challenges. On August 1, 2024, astronomer Agnès Lèbre took over as director of the Montpellier Environmental Research Observatory (OREME). This role is a natural fit for theUM ’s lead researcher, whose responsibilities have included an observation service since 1996.

L’initiative clé internationale Water (INITIATE - InternatioNal InTercultural Interdisciplinary wATer nEtwork) est développée à l’Université dans le cadre du projet UM2030, lauréat de l’Appel à Projets « Intégration et Développement des IdEx et des ISITE » (IDéES). L’initiative est le résultat d’une collaboration multilatérale entre l’Université de Montpellier (UM) et ses partenaires stratégiques à travers le monde, dont trois Centres internationaux UNESCO (situés à Montpellier, Delft et Dundee). Accroître l'impact des sciences de l'eau par la promotion et le soutien, au niveau doctoral, d'approches de recherche inter et transdisciplinaires et le développement d'expertises à l'interface science-politique-société dans le domaine de l'eau. Faciliter les opportunités de recherche à plus long terme ainsi que les perspectives de développement de carrière pour les scientifiques en début de carrière dans le domaine du développement durable. Faire progresser les pratiques de science ouverte et d'éducation ouverte grâce au développement de nouveaux partenariats mondiaux équitables. Programme La Plateforme doctorale INITIATE ambitionne de réunir une fois par an la cohorte de doctorants pour des écoles de terrain et/ou des formations sur des thématiques de sciences de l'eau. Chaque cohorte est constituée jusqu'à 2 doctorants par institution partenaire pour une durée de deux ans. Ces jeunes chercheurs, issus de domaines de recherche sur l’eau variés, sont conviés à participer à des activités en ligne et en présentiel pendant cette période et après, ils rejoindront un réseau d'Alumni avec d'autres anciens boursiers INITIATE. INITIATE vise à favoriser l’interdisciplinarité et l’interculturalité à travers la diversité des doctorants qu’elle réunit. Les doctorants travaillent en groupe et échangent afin de renforcer leurs liens et de former un réseau international de futurs leaders des sciences de l'eau. La Plateforme offre : Des opportunités de publication de documents, création de supports de communication par les doctorants Une infrastructure virtuelle mondiale pour faciliter la discussion et le partage de documents Une visibilité de la thématique de recherche à l’international La possibilité de participer à des événements internationaux Une opportunité de réseautage pour les jeunes chercheurs La première cohorte, promotion 2024, comprend 19 étudiants de 11 nationalités. Ces doctorants seront réunis au Maroc du 25 au 29 novembre 2024 pour la première école d’automne et devraient être accueillis à Montpellier en octobre 2025 pour la deuxième école d'automne.
