Successful studies

The University of Montpellier contributes to the success of all its students by offering support measures adapted to the needs and specificities of each student. For example, students benefiting from a Special Study Regime (high-level sportsmen and women, artists, employees, innovative entrepreneurs, etc.) can benefit from support tailored to their needs. In all these situations, subject to recognition of one of these statuses by the University, we are at your side to help you make the most of your studies and support you on the road to success.

Tutoring

Tutoring is one of the ways in which the University of Montpellier helps its students to succeed.

Free of charge, tutoring supports students throughout the academic year. A real synergy between students and teachers, it enables students to put their knowledge into practice through sessions organized by tutors.

Tutors are students in higher education, either in training (trainee tutors) or having completed a specific "Qualification for tutor functions" course (qualified tutors).

Would you like to take part in tutoring sessions?

You must be enrolled at the University of Montpellier for initial training. You'll find all the information you need about tutoring sessions in your faculty, school or institute.

Would you like to become a tutor?

If you are registered at the University of Montpellier for a national diploma, you can apply to the tutor in charge. To do so, you'll need to send a covering letter, a curriculum vitae and specify the type of tutoring you'd like to do. You may be asked to attend an interview. If your application is accepted, you will be given training before starting work as a qualified tutor.

High-level athlete

The status of high-level sports student (SHN) is a system enabling students to benefit from study and/or examination accommodations. Eligible students must :

Innovative student entrepreneur

Innovative Entrepreneur status is a scheme enabling students to benefit from study and/or exam accommodations. It can be awarded to any student enrolled in a national degree program at the University of Montpellier, either through conventional initial training or apprenticeship, and after approval by the "Innovative Student" committee. Eligible students must demonstrate :

  • registration in at least the 3rd year of higher education (3rd year Bachelor's degree, BUT 3, engineering degree, Master's degree, etc.);
  • an application with professional and entrepreneurial objectives, presenting :

- an innovative entrepreneurial project in line with one of the "Nourish, Care, Protect" challenges;

- a strong appetite for entrepreneurship and innovation.

In addition to study arrangements, the University of Montpellier offers innovative student entrepreneurs personalized support through entrepreneurial programs such as INITIUM, which provide specific support for entrepreneurs in the early stages of their development. This support can include the following:

  • Mentoring: access to a network of experienced mentors in the field of innovation and entrepreneurship.
  • Training: participation in workshops and seminars dedicated to innovative entrepreneurship, covering topics such as startup financing, intellectual property protection and business development.
  • Access to UM resources: conditional use of UM infrastructures, such as laboratories, research centers and coworking spaces, for project development.

Entrepreneurial projects may involve :

  • A personal entrepreneurial project: development of an innovative idea into a business project. This project is entirely initiated by the student.
  • Intellectual property valorization: structuring a fictitious or real start-up to valorize ideas or discoveries associated with already defined intellectual property belonging to one or more founding members of the Montpellier PUI. This type of project makes it possible to create a company around existing research results, even if no project leader has yet been identified.
  • Participation in a research and/or technological project: integration into a team of scientists within a research and/or training component of the Montpellier PUI, with the aim of becoming an entrepreneur. This project enables the refinement of an idea in preparation for possible patent protection (intellectual property) and the creation of a company.

Clarification of national PEPITE status

The Entrepreneur Innovateur status awarded by the UM complements and enriches the national status of student entrepreneur offered by PEPITE (Pôles Étudiants pour l'Innovation, le Transfert et l'Entrepreneuriat), by offering specific support to students with innovative entrepreneurial projects that respond to the three major challenges facing our society: "Nourish, Care, Protect".

However, the national student-entrepreneur status awarded by PEPITE does not automatically lead to the status of innovative student-entrepreneur at the University of Montpellier. However, the two statuses can be combined if, on the one hand, the innovation is characterized and, on the other, if the response to one of the three major challenges is qualified.

How do I obtain Entrepreneur Innovateur status?

Apply to the school where you are enrolled. A form accompanied by an application file must also be submitted. Applicants are asked to provide any documents that can justify the link with their entrepreneurial project.

Student employee

The salaried status is a scheme enabling students to benefit from study and/or examination arrangements. It may be granted to any student enrolled in initial training for a national diploma (excluding sandwich courses and general and advanced courses in the medical, pharmaceutical and odontological sciences), on the recommendation of the salaried status committee.

Students who qualify for this status and benefit from the provisions of the present scheme must be able to prove that they are working under a contract:

  • An average of at least 10 hours a week, or 40 hours a month if the contract is for less than 12 consecutive weeks.
  • A minimum of 120 hours per teaching semester, or 240 hours during the academic year for an employment contract lasting more than 12 consecutive weeks.

How do I become an employee?

Apply to the school where you are enrolled. A form accompanied by the employment contract will be requested from the student applying for the status. The various faculties of the University of Montpellier will publish the application calendar on their web pages.

Student Involvement

In the interests of student success, the University of Montpellier promotes and takes into account student commitment. The scheme enables students to gain recognition for their commitment to the university and/or benefit from special study arrangements.

List of activities covered by the student commitment scheme :

  • voluntary activity within an association governed by the law of 1901 ;
  • professional activity ;
  • sporting activity, subject to registration on the lists mentioned in article L 221-2 of the French Sports Code;
  • military activity in the operational reserve ;
  • commitment to the national police operational reserve ;
  • volunteer fireman ;
  • civic service commitment ;
  • volunteering in the armed forces
  • activity as an elected member of one of the institution's councils (including central councils and councils of UFRs, Schools and Institutes), the CNESER, the CROUS or a local authority;
  • student members of a student life office or a student office (UFR, Schools, Institutes);
  • students holding a union mandate ;
  • any civic activity recognized by the UFR, School or Institute of registration.

Recognizing student commitment

Recognition of student commitment results from the validation of skills, knowledge and aptitudes acquired through the activities listed above.

Student involvement can be recognized even if it takes place abroad or as part of a gap year.

How do you get your student commitment recognized?

Students wishing to showcase their commitment must apply to the school where they are enrolled.

The request must be justified and accompanied by a document in which the student specifies and describes his or her activity(ies) and/or documents certifying it.

The activity listed in the validation request is not necessarily valued for the academic year in which it is carried out.

The same activities can only be validated once per academic cycle, regardless of the year of the cycle in question (understood in the Bachelor's - Master's sense).

How can student commitment be recognized?

The jury's recognition of the validation of skills, knowledge and aptitudes can be assessed in various ways, provided that these are included in the knowledge control procedures:

  • a free teaching unit to which ECTS have been allocated; this UE does not include any teaching and can be included in all training models. In addition, each syllabus must specify the number of ECTS allocated to this UE. The number of ECTS allocated to this UE is a minimum of 2 ECTS, either two ECTS in addition to the required ECTS or 2 ECTS integrated into the required ECTS;
  • partial or total exemption from training ;
  • the awarding of "bonus points" in the overall average based on the jury's decision;
  • digital badges.

Adapting studies to student commitment

Under this scheme, students enrolled in a degree course at the University of Montpellier who are engaged in one of the activities listed in the introduction may apply to have their studies accommodated.

To do so, students must submit a request to their school, accompanied by supporting documents specific to their situation, with regard to the periods and deadlines set by the UFR, School or Institute in which they are registered.

Requests for accommodation must be justified and supported by documents enabling the teaching teams to assess the commitment.
