Content type : Page
The Bacterial Virulence and Chronic Infections laboratory, VBIC (University of Montpellier, INSERM), was created on January 1, 2011, and is based at the UFR de Médecine Santé in Nîmes. Since January 2023, "L'équipe Projet Biologie des infections à Staphylocoques", located on the Triolet site in Montpellier, has joined VBIC. We have a "bench to bedside" approach, using basic and translational research to solve clinically relevant problems. Working closely with basic scientists, clinicians and biologists at the CHU de Nîmes, we use integrative, multidisciplinary approaches to understand the cellular and molecular basis of host/pathogen and microbial interactions in chronic wounds, and to apply our findings to clinical practice. We are also the National Reference Center for Brucellosis. We focus on the following pathologies: Brucellosis; Opportunistic infections caused by Burkholderia cepacia complex Chronic wound infections Staphylococcal infections. Montpellier Institute for Infectious Disease Research (IRIM)
Content type : Page
Infectious diseases account for 35% of all deaths worldwide, and are the main cause of death in children and young adults. In addition, 17% of new cancer cases are thought to be caused by infectious agents. Infectiology research is therefore essential to better understand how an infectious agent multiplies within a living organism, so as to be able to prevent, treat and even cure the diseases induced by these infections. IRIM (Institut de Research en Infectiologie de Montpellier) is a research center focused on high-quality fundamental research in the fields of bacteriology, virology and immunity.
