Physiology and experimental medicine of the heart and muscles (PhyMedExp)

Physiology and experimental medicine of the heart and muscles

The Laboratory of Physiology and Experimental Medicine of the Heart and Muscles, PhyMedExp, is a joint research unit (INSERM, CNRS, University of Montpellier) created on January 1, 2011. This multidisciplinary unit focuses on the physiology and pathophysiology of contractile tissues (cardiac, smooth and striated muscles), and their interactions with their environment.

It employs over 150 people in 5 teams, and develops a research strategy ranging from elementary structures (genes and molecules), through cells and tissues, to the entire organism.

The 5 teams of the new PHYMEDEX unit are :

  • Team 1: Dynamics of cardiac couplings.
  • Team 2: Muscle and Organ Deficiency.
  • Team 3: Respiratory diseases and the environment.
  • Team 4: Digestive system: development and pathologies.
  • Team 5: Neuromuscular and hereditary diseases.
