On the occasion of his visit to France for the release of his new book "The Virtuous Circle" co-written with Nicolas Hulot, No Transition! Occitanie magazine invites, in partnership with Actes Sud and the Ecology FairVandana Shiva for a special lecture hosted by the University of Montpellier.
A global symbol of the ecological revolution and leader of the anti-globalization movement, according to journalist Lionel Astruc, who also contributed to the new book, Vandana Shiva has based her work on teaching by example. Setting out alone on foot across India in the late 1980s in search of seeds threatened by industry, she returned at the head of a procession of 500,000 protesters—farmers and activists—and a network of 120 seed banks. Her initiatives have spread across five continents, and her lawsuits against multinational corporations have earned her numerous awards, including the Alternative Nobel Prize. Draped in her ever-present handmade cotton sari, she urges each of us to become that "little nothing" that will reverse the trend.
With doctorates in quantum physics and philosophy, she lives up to the name of the god Shiva, known as much for his combative nature as for his ability to protect life.
