On the occasion of his visit to France for the release of his new book “The Virtuous Circle” co-written with Nicolas Hulot, No Transition! Occitanie Magazine invites, in partnership with Actes Sud and the Eco Fair, Vandana Shiva for a special lecture hosted by the University of Montpellier.
“A global icon of the ecological revolution and a leader of the anti-globalization movement,” as described by journalist Lionel Astruc, who also contributed to the new book, Vandana Shiva has based her work on leading by example. Setting out alone on foot across the roads of India in the late 1980s, in search of seeds threatened by industry, she returned at the head of a procession of 500,000 demonstrators—farmers and activists—and a network of 120 seed banks. Her initiatives have spread across five continents, and her lawsuits against multinational corporations have earned her numerous awards, including the Alternative Nobel Prize. Draped in her signature handcrafted cotton sari, she urges each of us to become that “tiny speck” that will turn the tide.
With a doctorate in quantum physics and philosophy, she is aptly named after the god Shiva, who is known as much for his combative nature as for his ability to protect life.
