The current research landscape is producing a growing volume of publications, data, and, more broadly, a diverse range of scientific outputs and artifacts (both digital and physical). In this context, the ability to uniquely and reliably identify the various elements of the scientific ecosystem—research teams, publications, datasets, software, etc.—across a multitude of information systems has become a central challenge for structuring and leveraging scientific activity, particularly to enable the traceability of scientific objects.
