Science at UM [S03-ep20]: Co-opetition or competition for green innovation?

This week on *A l’UM la science*, Camille Bildstein and Frédéric Leroy from Montpellier Research in Management, founders of the Coo-innov Chair, discuss green innovation. In the report, Olivier Ravel introduces us to the Mésocosme platform at the Ecotron. The program airs on Divergence-FM 93.9.

It’s no longer news: every year, the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) warns of the challenges posed by climate change and the need to take action to try to mitigate it. More and more countries are committing to carbon neutrality by 2050, and France is a prime example. While all good intentions are welcome in achieving this goal, nothing will happen without the participation of businesses and the development of new models—models for manufacturing, sales, and consumption. A paradigm shift, in short.

Innovating to be more ethical, more cost-effective, and more environmentally friendly—yes, but with whom and how? Because innovation is expensive and therefore carries a risk. Should we take that risk alone, or should we form alliances—and if so, with whom?

The Coo-innov Chair at the University of Montpellier Foundation seeks to address all these questions in its latest report, titled “Collaborating to Meet the Challenges of Green Innovation.” To this end, they closely examined the innovation strategies of four companies in four key sectors of green innovation: textiles, energy, agri-food, and aerospace.

We’ll be discussing this with Camille Bildstein, development officer for the Coo-Innov Chair, and Frédéric Leroy, a researcher atMontpellier Research in Management and director of the chair.

In the second half of the program, we return tothe Ecotron to explore a new Mesocosm platform. Olivier Ravel, the Ecotron’s technical director, introduces us to the platform’s 18 identical and independent experimental units, which enable the measurement of a wide range of environmental scenarios—not only to simulate future climates but also to reconstruct past ones.

Finally, we will be welcoming Agnès Pesenti, as the Science Bar is back, and this time the lecture is part of Brain Awareness Week.

At UM Science, you’ve got the program—let’s get started!
