At UM, digital technology is second nature

A "digital fountain" for the Professors And for students: this connected space allows them to discover or propose innovative projects, all accessible at their fingertips. It also strengthens the network of current and former students. It's at the University of Montpellier, and nowhere else…

It was officially inaugurated on Monday, January 23. But in the heart of (S)space – a place for dining, meeting and activities in the heart of the Triolet campus – the digital fountain is already a well-known attraction for UM students.

The digital fountain? A connected place to meet around innovative touch devices, to promote co-creativity and imagination. Professors and students can experiment, discover, propose: projects, applications, event animations… And freely use digital tools whose access is generally restricted.

By and for students

The digital fountain offers its users a wealth of shared content: digital educational resources, or freely exchanged documents useful to their student life.

The primary objective of this new type of fountain is to encourage the development of 100% student-run applications or digital projects.

It thus allows them to showcase their work, by offering a place to demonstrate achievements, to test projects in progress or nearing completion, and by promoting interactions between them.

Collaborative tools

The digital fountain is not just a place to meet and share. It promotes the creation of digital projects by providing everyone with a team of experts in project support, testing and demonstration equipment, a modular space, and a production workshop.

It is part of the overall policy for developing digital resources for students, particularly in its integration with university libraries. The fountain also enables the development of collaborative work tools made freely available in university libraries, in line with the ongoing transformation of these libraries into Learning Centers.

Building connections

A collaborative tool and meeting place, the fountain helps break down barriers between different disciplinary "communities" and foster connections between them. Open to the campus, the city, and the world, the fountain also aims to showcase students' experiences and connect current and former students. This initiative aligns with the university's mission to promote career development and the creation of ResUM, the University of Montpellier's professional network.

Some examples of achievements: musical video game, touch mode optimization of an internship geolocation application, mapping of contemporary artworks at the University of Montpellier, demonstration of an "Environmental Symphony" application, etc.
