Menstrual leave
The University of Montpellier is introducing menstrual leave to address the challenges associated with menstrual cycles that may arise during one’s studies.
This policy allows eligible individuals to take temporary leave from work, subject to certain conditions, in the event of menstrual-related issues.

How does it work?
- Any student who menstruates and is enrolled at the University of Marseille in a national degree program may request an exemption from attendance requirements due to menstrual discomfort.
- The number of days of exemption from in-person classes (lectures, tutorials, labs, etc.), excluding scheduled assessments, is set at 10 days for the current academic year, up to a limit of two days per month (excluding any periods spent in a professional setting and exam periods).
- An extension of the number of days of absence may be granted upon the recommendation of the preventive medicine department (Joint Department of Preventive Medicine and Health Promotion).
- This service welcomes you and supports you in managing your health issues.
Steps to Follow
- Please completethe sworn statement and submit it to your UEI’s registrar’s office within 48 hours of the class in question.
- If you exceed the 10-day limit, consult the SCMPPS for a medical opinion
