UM Meets Its Future Students

For its 33rd edition, the higher education fair took place at the Montpellier Exhibition Center on January 12, 13, and 14. This must-attend event brought together nearly 250 exhibitors and more than 21,000 visitors. We hear from Carla and Quentin, two prospective students.

 I’m here at the university’s booth to finalize my college applications on the Parcoursup platform , says 17-year-old Quentin, a high school student who came from Alès with his parents. Applications can be submitted on the Parcoursup online platform from January 18, 2023, through March 9. “I’m also here to get information on thedifferentscience programs at the University of Montpellier , adds the young man from Alès.

This is an opportunity for visitors to explore a wide range of academic programs, from law, economics, and business to health, science, and technology . “I’m looking for information on studying law and political science to help me decidewhich path to take. I need to understand how the different lectures and tutorials are structured , explains 17-year-old Carla, a high school student from Saint-Clément-de-Rivière, who is accompanied by her mother.

A special opportunity to choose your career path

This annual event gives high school students, parents, and career counselors the opportunity to speak with administrators, Professors students from the 17 academic departments, schools, and institutes at the University of Marseille, all of whom have gone above and beyond to make this event a success. “I met with faculty members from STAPS, the Polytech network, and the Faculty of Sciences. These discussions opened my eyes to other fields, such as engineering degrees,” explains Quentin. “It’s been a positive experience; I have a much clearer picture now.” ” Over the course of these three days, UM professionals also led 16 conferences on health studies at the university, careers in research and innovation, management, economics, future-oriented technology programs (BUT), professional bachelor’s degrees, and many other topics. “I was able to get answers to my questions about the various career paths after studying law and politics, but also learn more about how lectures are organized. This will help me make my decision, says the young woman from Hérault. 

The open house on February 11 will be an opportunity to showcase the academic departments, schools, and institutes that make up the university through various tours: the campus, university libraries, and student housing. “I picked up a flyer for the upcoming open house and I’m going to visit the university to tour the Law School so I can get a sense of what this new venture will be like , Clara concludes.
