The UM meets its future students

The 33rd edition of the Salon de l'Enseignement Supérieur took place at the Parc des Expositions in Montpellier on January 12, 13 and 14. This not-to-be-missed event attracted some 250 exhibitors and over 21,000 visitors. Here's a look back at the event with Carla and Quentin, two future students.

"I've come to the University stand to finalize my various vows on the Parcoursup platform , " says 17-year-old Quentin, a high school student who has come from Alès with his parents. Entering wishes on the Parcoursup online platform can be done from January 18, 2023 and up to and including March 9. " I've also come to find out about thevariousscientific courses availableat the University of Montpellier ," says the young Alésian.

This was an opportunity for visitors to discover a multi-disciplinary range of courses, from law, economics and management to health, science and technology. I need to understand how the different courses are organized, " explains Carla, 17, a high school student from Saint-Clément-de-Rivière, accompanied by her mother.

A special time to choose your career path

This annual event gives high school students, parents and career guidance professionals the opportunity to talk to the heads, lecturers and students of the UM's 17 UFRs, schools and institutes, all of whom rallied round for the occasion. "I met teachers from STAPS, the Polytech network and the Faculty of Science. The various exchanges opened my eyes to other disciplines, such as engineering," explains Quentin. It's a positive experience, I can see things a lot more clearly now. Over the course of the three days, UM professionals also led 16 conferences on health studies at university, careers in research and innovation, management, economics, future-oriented technological training (BUT), professional licenses and many other subjects. "I was able to get answers to my questions about the different career opportunities after studying law and politics, as well as finding out more about the organization of lectures. This will help me make my decision", explains the young Hérault native.

The open day on February 11 will be an opportunity to learn more about the UFRs, schools and institutes that make up the UM, with visits to the campus, university libraries and student accommodation. " I was able to pick up a flyer for the next JPO and I'm going to visit the University's Faculty of Law to get a feel for this new project ," concludes Clara.
