Week against LGBT+ phobias at the UM

In 2023, the University of Montpellier made its return to the Marche des Fiertés, once again reaffirming its commitment to respect for people, whatever their gender identity and sexual orientation. Beyond this participation, the week-long fight against LGBTP+ phobias will be an opportunity to look back on 50 years of struggles marked by real advances, while highlighting persistent hostile reactions. A reminder of how far we've come, and of the challenges ahead for a more inclusive society.

During the week, the university looked back on the battles that have led to progress towards equal rights for all. We were also keen to point out the violent reactions of some sections of society to these developments.

While the LGBT+ community has made considerable strides in recent decades, experiences of hostility, discrimination and even violence have not disappeared. They can even take on new forms, notably through the development of digital uses.

Remembering how far we've come and recognizing the progress we've made is essential, especially for students in the university community. Identifying tomorrow's challenges in building an even more inclusive society is just as important. The University of Montpellier is inviting students and staff to contribute to this reflection by taking part in this week of action.
