Working on our links
From June 14 to 18, the UM organized its Quality of Life at Work Week. This year's event focused on the question of relationships: collective intelligence, management, or how to reconcile professional and personal life when you're a carer? These were some of the topics addressed during the round-table discussions and improvised conference organized by the Quality of Working Life Department.
It's a week that the UM wanted to " focus on the link", says President Philippe Augé. The link between managers and their teams, the link and sense of belonging, the link within the work group to generate collective intelligence, and the balance to be found between work and family life ". After sixteen months of a health crisis that has profoundly altered our living conditions, thinking about new ways of working together does not seem superfluous.
"Helping managers take action
This special week began with an online round table on the theme of management and quality of life at work. In the presence ofAgnès Fichard-Carroll, UM vice-president in charge of social responsibility, and Bénédicte Luporsi, director of human resources, this discussion forum offered teaching, administrative and technical staff the opportunity to exchange views on their management practices, with two video clips presented by trainer Sylvain Delarue produced as part of the "Training and support at all University of Montpellier sites" (FASIL-UM) project, supported by the Fonds interministériel d'amélioration des conditions de travail (FIACT).
The topics covered in these " management " capsules were discussed with staff at sites far from Montpellier, and their content was targeted according to their requests. The aim is to enhance the managerial training of staff and encourage them to take part in a more in-depth training program, or to raise awareness of the issue of RPS prevention in managerial actions. " These video vignettes are part of a range of actions carried out by the Human Resources Department, which aims to improve the quality of life at work through the integration, support and training of UM employees," explains Bénédicte Luporsi. " They raise questions that will help the manager to take action," adds the trainer.
A better work-life balance
A second online round table addressed the issue of work-life balance through the prism of caregiving. In France, between 8 and 12 million people are trying to reconcile work and caring for an elderly dependent. In view of the difficulties regularly encountered, there are a number of ways to help. Social service assistants from the UM and CNRS, surrounded by experts in their field, presented schemes for both carers and the cared-for. Frédéric Pizzo, a psychologist at the UM, points out that " the role of carer can sometimes arouse fears , yet it can be an opportunity to be seized in the organization of work, if communication is established openly between the carer, his or her hierarchy and colleagues".
Collective intelligence
In a more original form, trainer Valérie Weidmann gave a talk on the collaborative principles of collective intelligence, defined as "the ability of a group of individuals to find appropriate responses to the challenges they face in a complex context ". This concept was then illustrated during a theatrical improvisation session in which the questions raised by the audience were acted out. All orchestrated by Montpellier-based actor Julien Masdoua and his Compagnie du Capitaine.
Tools on replay
To complement this week, the regional interministerial support platform for human resources management is offering webinars until July 30, accessible by replay. The webinars cover topics such as " Happiness at work ", " Team cohesion ", " Teleworking ", " Workload at work " and " How to make your meetings more effective ". These videos offer a range of tools to help everyone improve their quality of life at work.
