Office of Student Life (BVE)

The BVE, or Student Life Office, plays a key role in student life at the University of Montpellier; it is run BY and FOR students. It currently consists of the student vice president, a student life coordinator, and several student representatives. The BVE works closely with the University’s various departments and administrative offices, as well as with student organizations.

The BVE's missions

  • Take the initiative to improve living and learning conditions (e.g., tailored meal plans for working students, organizing food drives, etc.);
  • Organize various events and activities (examples below);
  • Coordinate and support the university’s student organizations and tutoring programs;
  • Support student projects and their funding applications (FSDIE projects);
  • Help organize activities at student gathering places (MDEs, (S)PACE);
  • Organize campus activities in collaboration with the University’s various departments;
  • Help create the university's student guide.

In addition, the Student Vice President serves on the committees responsible for awarding financial aid (FSDIE Social).

Examples of projects led by the BVE

Food distributions on campus

In partnership with the Linkee association, the BVE offers food distributions every other Monday at the Triolet and Richter community centers.

Orientation Week for New Students

The BVE, together with the University’s associations, departments, and cultural and institutional partners, welcomes students to the Jardin des Plantes every September to mark the start of the academic year.

Sports & Wellness Village

Every year, the BVE organizes the Sports & Wellness Village at the University Sports Center a few days after orientation week. The program includes a variety of sports and para-sports activities (bubble soccer, fitness trails, tournaments, etc.), introductory sessions on CPR, a smoothie bike, and many other activities.

Circular Economy Weeks to Raise Awareness of the Ecological Transition

In October, the BVE, in partnership with Ile des Possibles, is offering a variety of DIY workshops, upcycling events, and talks on the topic of the ecological transition.

Welcome Party for International Students

The welcome event for international students is held every year in February to welcome new international students arriving in the second semester and to help them settle in at UM.

Ceremonies to Thank Tutors

Every year in early June, at the Jardin des Plantes, the BVE recognizes the dedication of the tutors from the University’s student organizations and academic units (faculties, schools, and institutes).

Workshops & Association Cafés

Twice a year, the BVE organizes a training session for the University’s student organizations. The purpose of this event is to inform them about the resources and services available to them and to provide training on specific topics (project management, prevention of gender-based and sexual violence, disability, organizing social events, combating discrimination, etc.).

The “Association Cafés” are social gatherings designed to facilitate interaction among the university’s student organizations.

Arts and Culture Week

In April, over the course of a week, the BVE celebrates arts and culture with a diverse lineup of events, including a writing workshop, a public speaking contest, film screenings, concerts, and theater performances. The event concludes with the Village of Arts and Culture on the Triolet campus, where students can meet with the University’s cultural associations and services, which offer workshops and concerts.

PhD Student Coffee Hours

The purpose of the PhD student coffee hours is to combat social isolation among PhD students by providing them with regular opportunities to socialize in a friendly setting.

The BVE serves as a channel for students to actively participate in managing campus life and improving the student experience. Don’t hesitate to reach out to these dedicated students!
