University-Industry Partnerships

The University of Montpellier fosters partnerships between its research laboratories and the socio-economic sector through internal initiatives or by responding to external calls for proposals that encourage such collaborations and promote innovation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FaRlZH4Ayws Approximately 350 contracts are signed each year between the University of Montpellier and its academic or industrial partners in the form of research collaborations, service agreements, consortium agreements (ANR, Horizon Europe, etc.), equipment provision, licensing agreements, joint ownership agreements, or even startup incubation. How can a company establish an R&D partnership with a research laboratory? An Research partnership Research a laboratory and a company can take the form of: A research collaboration A service provision leveraging, in particular, the expertise of the University of Montpellier’s technology platforms How can a company employee join a Research laboratory Research The University of Montpellier offers the Companies And Campus program, which aims to increase the presence of socio-economic actors on campus by providing dedicated funding. This program aims to facilitate the establishment of new partnerships, including the arrival of company employees or entrepreneurs with business creation projects, within research structures focused on a topic of mutual interest. What mechanisms are available to strengthen exchanges between Research laboratories Research companies? Numerous mechanisms designed to strengthen exchanges between research laboratories and the socio-economic sector or to promote the employment of PhDs in companies exist: Regional level: initiatives can be funded under the Regional Plan for Higher Education, Research Innovation; National level: calls for projects are issued by the ANR (Labcom, PRCE...),  BPI France, or other foundations, as well as the CIFRE program, which allows a company to receive financial assistance to hire a doctoral student. At the European level: Calls for projects are issued through the Horizon Europe research and innovation funding program. Teams at the University of Montpellier guide the scientific community toward the most suitable program. How can a company be hosted at the University? As part of establishing a research contract with one of the university’s laboratories, UM provides office space to entrepreneurs or startups less than two years old. This allows hosted companies to be located on campus near research facilities and our technology platforms. This paid provision of office space may not exceed a total hosting period of six years. By contributing to Research Development, the government allows companies to benefit from tax incentives. The University of Montpellier holds the necessary accreditations to enable these socio-economic partners to benefit from the Research Collaboration Tax Credit and/or the Research Tax Credit.
