The Institut de Science des Données de Montpellier (ISDM) is working to bring about a lasting transformation in scientific practices by orienting all players towards data science, and building an effective, sustainable environment. Our actions Project support We develop support systems tailored to the needs of scientific communities: Data Clinic: an innovative support system for researchers, PhD students, engineers and students. A permanent scientific staff is on hand to provide concrete support for community projects: personalized advice, help in solving technical problems, overcoming specific bottlenecks. The clinic can also actively collaborate with researchers to co-construct solutions tailored to their needs. Targeted expertise: our engineers are involved in (bio)Computing, (bio)Statistics, Artificial Intelligence, FAIR data management, etc. Find out more Skills training The short courses offered by ISDM are designed to support the development of research data management, analysis and enhancement practices. They are aimed at all profiles - researchers, engineers, PhD candidates or students - wishing to acquire or reinforce key data science skills. Each session combines a practical approach, accessibility and scientific expertise, around three main themes: Artificial intelligence: Explore the foundations and concrete applications of AI thanks to introductory and targeted training courses. Computing and reproducibility: Practical workshops to master the fundamental tools of collaborative development and guarantee the reproducibility of scientific analyses. Statistics, data management and analysis: Training courses to learn or perfect statistical methods applied to data science. Winner of the ASDESR1 call for projects With substantial funding of over 3.6 million euros, the Moment-UM project is part of the fourth France 2030 investment plan for the future, launched by the French National Research Agency (ANR). The project aims to strengthen UM's position as a key player in European research, continuing education and innovation, through a number of different actions. Europe Moment-UM aims to boost the participation of UM researchers in the Horizon Europe program (European Framework Program for Research and Innovation). The ERC (European Research Council) grants, Marie Sklodowska-Curie actions and the EIC (European Innovation Council) are the preferred instruments. The aim is twofold: to increase the number of projects submitted and to improve the success rate. In close collaboration with three national research organizations based in Montpellier (CNRS, INSERM and IRD), Moment-UM is committed to increasing the visibility and support of research teams on the Montpellier site, through: Strengthening support staff by hiring new experts. Individualized support for project writing. Training and coordination of experts. Increased communication and visibility of funding and projects. Formation Moment'UM aims to strengthen the University of Montpellier's position in the professional training market to enhance the professional development of students, researchers and professionals. This component focuses on the development of short courses and institutional diplomas to meet the specific needs of companies, through: The creation of new courses and diplomas. Bio'Occ is a project financed by the French government as part of the France 2030 plan. This ambitious regional initiative aims to attract, train and retain the talents and players of tomorrow by developing specialized training in the field of Biotherapies and Bioproduction. Against a backdrop of growing growth in this sector in the Occitanie region, as well as nationwide, Bio'Occ meets a specific demand from industry, which is facing recruitment challenges. By creating a dynamic and innovative ecosystem, this project promises to transform the biotech landscape in the region, while supporting the growth of companies and preparing tomorrow's professionals to meet the challenges of the future. L’initiative clé internationale Water (INITIATE - InternatioNal InTercultural Interdisciplinary wATer nEtwork) est développée à l’Université dans le cadre du projet UM2030, lauréat de l’Appel à Projets « Intégration et Développement des IdEx et des ISITE » (IDéES). L’initiative est le résultat d’une collaboration multilatérale entre l’Université de Montpellier (UM) et ses partenaires stratégiques à travers le monde, dont trois Centres internationaux UNESCO (situés à Montpellier, Delft et Dundee). INITIATE représente une plateforme collaborative de formation doctorale et constitue une infrastructure mondiale virtuelle pour la coopération internationale sur les sciences de l’eau. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-HQFeuB3BQ Présentation Les acteurs L’initiative INITIATE a été construite entre l’UM et ses partenaires dès 2022. Accroître l'impact des sciences de l'eau par la promotion et le soutien, au niveau doctoral, d'approches de recherche inter et transdisciplinaires et le développement d'expertises à l'interface science-politique-société dans le domaine de l'eau. Faciliter les opportunités de recherche à plus long terme ainsi que les perspectives de développement de carrière pour les scientifiques en début de carrière dans le domaine du développement durable. Faire progresser les pratiques de science ouverte et d'éducation ouverte grâce au développement de nouveaux partenariats mondiaux équitables. Programme La Plateforme doctorale INITIATE ambitionne de réunir une fois par an la cohorte de doctorants pour des écoles de terrain et/ou des formations sur des thématiques de sciences de l'eau. Chaque cohorte est constituée jusqu'à 2 doctorants par institution partenaire pour une durée de deux ans. Ces jeunes chercheurs, issus de domaines de recherche sur l’eau variés, sont conviés à participer à des activités en ligne et en présentiel pendant cette période et après, ils rejoindront un réseau d'Alumni avec d'autres anciens boursiers INITIATE. INITIATE vise à favoriser l’interdisciplinarité et l’interculturalité à travers la diversité des doctorants qu’elle réunit. Les doctorants travaillent en groupe et échangent afin de renforcer leurs liens et de former un réseau international de futurs leaders des sciences de l'eau. La Plateforme offre : Des opportunités de publication de documents, création de supports de communication par les doctorants Une infrastructure virtuelle mondiale pour faciliter la discussion et le partage de documents Une visibilité de la thématique de recherche à l’international La possibilité de participer à des événements internationaux Une opportunité de réseautage pour les jeunes chercheurs La première cohorte, promotion 2024, comprend 19 étudiants de 11 nationalités. Ces doctorants seront réunis au Maroc du 25 au 29 novembre 2024 pour la première école d’automne et devraient être accueillis à Montpellier en octobre 2025 pour la deuxième école d'automne.

A global alliance for sustainable risk mitigation in a one-health approach. L’initiative clé internationale ‘VECT-OH : A Global Alliance for Sustainable Vector Risk Mitigation in a One Health Approach’ est développée à l’Université dans le cadre du projet UM2030, lauréat de l’Appel à Projets « Intégration et Développement des IdEx et des ISITE » (IDéES). L’initiative a pour vocation de mobiliser et fédérer la communauté scientifique internationale sur les défis clés et les enjeux majeurs liés aux insectes et arthropodes vecteurs et aux maladies qu’ils transmettent aux humains, aux animaux et aux plantes. Le consortium formé autour des Universités partenaires de l’UM promeut une recherche intégrative, déclinant l’approche « Une Seule Santé/One Health » à la prévention et au contrôle des maladies à transmission vectorielle. Il se donne pour ambition de transcender les traditionnelles collaborations bilatérales en identifiant des problématiques transversales à forte valeur ajoutée, déclinables à l’échelle des territoires, et permettant d’agréger bailleurs et parties prenantes pour une gestion durable du risque vectoriel à l’aune du changement climatique. Tous les partenaires sont engagés dans des projets de recherche collaboratifs et mutualisent leurs expériences, leurs expertises et leurs ressources pour co-construire et faire émerger des axes de recherche innovants et fédérateurs. Le consortium se veut ouvert à l’adhésion d’autres équipes de recherche et partenaires institutionnels.     Gouvernance L’initiative VECT-OH est pilotée depuis Montpellier par Frédéric Simard (DR IRD, DU MIVEGEC) et Mathilde Mercat (Postdoc UM). L’initiative offre : Des opportunités de financement d’activités de recherches locales sur la thématique Des opportunités de partage de données et d’expériences entre partenaires Le développement d’une communauté d’acteurs internationale sur la thématique Des opportunités de publication de documents scientifiques et techniques à destination de diverses audiences, Une visibilité de la thématique de recherche à l’international, la possibilité de participer à des évènements internationaux et une opportunité de réseautage pour les jeunes chercheurs Programme Le consortium organise un atelier de travail qui a lieu chaque année en présentiel à Montpellier. En 2022, le premier atelier a permis d’identifier la question du risque vectoriel associé à la (re)-végétalisation des villes comme un axe privilégié de recherche et la rédaction d’une feuille de route pour fédérer l’ensemble des acteurs sur la thématique dont l’un des premiers points est la réalisation d’une revue systématique de la littérature sur les relations entre végétation urbaine, vecteurs et risque vectoriel. L’atelier de 2023 a combiné des visites de sites sur le terrain pour confronter les protocoles expérimentaux utilisés par les différents partenaires pour le suivi des populations de vecteurs, et des réflexions collectives sur la standardisation des protocoles qui ont débouché sur la co-construction d’une réponse collective à un appel à projets Biodiversa+ mobilisant l’ensemble des partenaires éligibles. L’atelier de 2024 sera organisé en marge de la XXIIIème conférence de l’European Society for Vector Ecology qui regroupera cette année plus de 450 participants à Montpellier autour du thème « One Health in Action ».
