Ecole Graduée - Graduate School
The Graduate School is a structuring mechanism that strengthens the link between training and research at the University of Montpellier. It relies on collegiums, research research clusters and doctoral schoolsto create a coherent continuum from master's to doctorate.
Born of the momentum of the I-Site excellence program, and implemented in 2022 when the university became an experimental EPSCP, this initiative aims to internationalize, decompartmentalize and energize our educational offering, by focusing on research and innovation.
In particular, the creation of the Graduate school has given impetus to its IDIL graduate program, supported by the ANR as part of the SFRI project (Structuration de la Formation par la Research dans les initiatives d'excellence).
The objectives
- Ensuring continuity between the master's and doctorate levels for smooth, coherent career paths.
- Promote training through research and strengthen the company's image.
- Stimulate pedagogical innovation and interdisciplinarity through new modules and projects.
- Increase the international appeal of our courses and partnerships.
- Experiment with innovative recruitment processes for master's, engineering and doctoral students.
How it works
The graduate school at the University of Montpellier is structured around :
5 Research Centers :
Intermediary structures created to organize and coordinate research activities within the institution, they play a key role in structuring research at the University of Montpellier, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, international visibility and adaptation to societal challenges.
- Agriculture, Environment, Biodiversity (AEB)
- Biology-Health (BS)
- Chemistry
- Mathematics, Informatics, Physics, Systems (MIPS)
- Social sciences (SOC)
8 Collegiums
Collegiums are pedagogical coordination structures grouping together different UFRs, Schools and Institutes around a specific disciplinary field, to reinforce the cross-disciplinary nature of training and research.
- Agriculture and food
- Law, political science and administration
- Economics and management
- Education
- Technology courses
- Engineering
- Health
- Sciences
9 doctoral schools
Doctoral schools are academic structures dedicated to training doctoral students, supervising thesis preparation and ensuring the scientific quality of the doctoral program, while promoting the professional integration of new doctors.
The 9 doctoral schools that make up the doctoral college:
- Law and Political Science (DSP)
- Montpellier Economics and Management (EDEG)
- Information structures systems (I2S)
- Languages, Literatures, Cultures, Civilizations (LLCC)
- Sciences chimiques Balard (SCB)
- Chemical and biological sciences for health (CBS2)
- Human Movement Sciences (SMH)
- Biodiversity, Agriculture, Food, Environment, Land, Water (GAIA)
- Territories, Time, Societies and Development (TTSD)
The IDIL program
IDIL is an award-winning program of the AAP SFRI France 2030, which complements and transforms the training offered by the University of Montpellier through masters programs "taught in English", with numerous laboratory immersions (12-month internships) and an openness to interdisciplinary research.
It is aimed at French and international students wishing to train in a high-level scientific environment, directly linked to the major societal challenges to which the University of Montpellier is committed: feeding, caring and protecting.
Graduated school courses
The University of Montpellier's Graduate School offers two types of Master's courses, both of which are backed by research and enable students to go on to a doctorate.
RG Tracks - Research Graduate Tracks
The RG Tracks are the University of Montpellier's historic masters programs, which provide training for and through research.
They combine high-level scientific training with a research-based approach, in French or English depending on the specialization.
Consult the list of master's degrees offered by the University of Montpellier with a strong research dimension.
IRG Tracks - Intensive Research Graduate Tracks (IDIL)
IRG Tracks are masters courses taught entirely in English, combining academic training with laboratory immersion.
Nearly 50% of ECTS credits are earned in the laboratory ("in lab"), through long internships, interdisciplinary courses and group projects.
These courses embody the interdisciplinary, in-lab and international model promoted by the IDIL (Inter-Disciplinary & In-Lab Graduate Program) since 2022.
- Chemistry specialization
- Comparative Political Mentions
- Engineering and Ergonomics of Physical Activities specialization
- Earth and planetary sciences, environment / Water sciences specialization
- Eco-Epidemiology specialization
- Management
- Fundamental Physics and Applications / Mechanical specializations
- Electronics, electrical energy, automatic control
