The vice-president also took advantage of the event to exchange views with UESTC school heads Cao Ping, Peng Lan and Hu Jun. While the two cities have been twinned since 1981, the first twinning between a French and a Chinese city, the cooperative partnerships and projects uniting the two universities have continued to develop. The UESTC is also home to the Alliance française de Chengdu, and co-founded the Institut Confucius de Montpellier with the UM.

Concrete, long-term actions

Following this visit, the UM welcomed a Chinese delegation on November 6. On the agenda: discussions on new joint projects, including a Winter school in mathematics and engineering to be held at the Faculty of Science in 2026, and a presentation of the LIRMM. "The UESTC is a privileged historical partner with whom we intend to consolidate our ties through concrete, long-term actions", asserted François Pierrot. The delegation's visit ended with the signing of an inter-university cooperation agreement by Cao Ping, President of the UESTC Board of Directors, further strengthening the academic and scientific ties between the two establishments.
