[LUM#20] Bodies in Motion

Bodies in motion: a fascinating and multifaceted subject that we invite you to explore alongside our researchers in this 20th issue of Lum magazine, published in September 2023.

A body that is sometimes subjected to extreme stress, such as that of astronauts, whom scientists help regain their muscle strength after a stay in space, as you will discover in our portfolio. A body that can also be weakened by illness or disability and that hopes that medicine and science will find solutions such as digital rehabilitation for patients with respiratory failure or neural electrostimulation for quadriplegics.

The world of sports takes center stage in the second section of *Lum*: the reclaiming of physical and public spaces, as advocated by riders; social activism challenging gender stereotypes; and ethical battles against the breach of medical confidentiality for athletes… All these practices are examined, analyzed, and deconstructed through the lens of sociologists, psychologists, and legal experts.

And what about the body in schools, juvenile detention centers, or even in the metaverse? Our third section invites you to reflect on the role of the body in our institutions and explores the role it will play in a world where the virtual realm is also gaining ground.

Join the movement by reading this 20th issue of Lum magazine, now available in an augmented version, which gives you access to UM’s podcasts: “Science at UM” and “Lumlu.”
