[LUM#20] Bodies in motion

Bodies in motion, a fascinating and protean object of study that we invite you to explore with our researchers in this 20th issue of Lum magazine, published in September 2023.

A body sometimes subjected to harsh constraints, like that of cosmonauts whom scientists help to regain their muscular capacities after a stay in space, as you will discover in our portfolio. A body that can also be weakened by disease or disability, and which hopes that medicine and science will find solutions such as digital rehabilitation for patients suffering from respiratory failure, or neural electrostimulation for quadriplegics.

The sporting body takes center stage in Lum's second section: reclaiming physical and public space, as claimed by riders; social conquest, with the denunciation of gender stereotypes; or the ethical battle against athletes' failure to respect medical confidentiality... All these practices are questioned, analyzed and deconstructed through the eyes of sociologists, psychologists and legal experts.

And what about the body at school, in juvenile detention centers or even in the metaverse? Our third section invites you to think about the place of the body in our institutions, and anticipates the place it will take in a world where the virtual is also gaining ground.

Get in on the action with this 20th issue of Lum magazine, now in an expanded version, featuring access to UM podcasts: A l'UM la science and Lumlu.
