[LUM#20] Bodies in motion

Bodies in motion: a fascinating and multifaceted subject that we invite you to explore with our researchers in this 20th issue of Lum magazine, published in September 2023.

A body that is sometimes subjected to harsh conditions, such as that of astronauts, whom scientists help to regain their muscular abilities after a stay in space, as you will discover in our portfolio. A body that can also be weakened by illness or disability and that hopes that medicine and science will find solutions such as digital rehabilitation for patients with respiratory failure or neural electrostimulation for quadriplegics.

The athletic body takes center stage in the second section of Lum: reclaiming physical and public space, as demanded by riders; social conquest through the denunciation of gender stereotypes; and ethical battles against the violation of medical confidentiality for athletes. All of these practices are examined, analyzed, and deconstructed through the lens of sociologists, psychologists, and lawyers.

And what about the body at school, in juvenile detention centers, or even in the metaverse? Our third section invites you to consider the place of the body in our institutions and anticipates the place it will occupy in a world where the virtual is also gaining ground.

Join the movement by reading this 20th issue of Lum magazine, now in an enhanced version, which gives you access to UM podcasts: A l’UM la science and Lumlu.
