Its objective is to assess whether high exposure to fine particulate matter (PM) pollution increases the risk of COVID-19-related deaths or hospitalizations. To this end, the project uses anonymized health data from the National Health Data System (SNDS), covering the period from 2015 to 2021. This data includes, in particular, COVID-19 deaths, hospitalizations, vaccinations, and testing, analyzed at the municipal level, by age, and by sex. The research is conducted in a secure environment that complies with CNIL requirements. The data is retained for 4 years, with a possible 2-year extension, and then deleted. Data subjects have rights regarding their data (access, rectification, objection, erasure, restriction) and may contact the University of Montpellier’s Data Protection Officer or file a complaint with the CNIL. Actors, Resources, and Territories in Development (ART-Dev)
Content type: Page
The ART-Dev Joint Research Unit explores the links between territories and contrasting development dynamics. The analysis of these links takes into account resource mobilization, as well as the strategies and configurations of actors that influence public policy, the economy, and the environment. ART-Dev’s scientific focus spans several thematic areas (rural, urban, environment, energy, migration, transportation, etc.) and diverse geographic regions (North and South). One of the unit’s distinctive features is its ability to compare contexts in the North and South, as well as contrasting situations within the same country. Its current scientific project is structured around three research axes and a cross-cutting program: Axis 1: Rural Restructuring and Public Policy; Axis 2: Natural Resources and Environmental Regulation; Axis 3: Interfaces, Embedding, and Mobility in Globalization; Cross-cutting Program: Asymmetries, Public Action, and Scales of Action. The European Institute of Membranes (IEM) was founded in 2000. The institute brings together approximately 75 permanent staff members and about 100 non-permanent staff (master’s students, doctoral candidates, postdoctoral researchers, and visiting professors) to work on research, commercialization, and training projects in the field of membrane materials and processes. IEM with the École Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Montpellier (ENSCM), the University of Montpellier (UM), and the National Center for Research (CNRS), and is located on the Triolet campus (UM). IEM objectiveIEM to develop membranes and membrane processes that are likely to have significant societal implications in the fields of energy, water treatment, environmental protection, health, and food. It therefore brings together scientists from complementary disciplines to conduct multidisciplinary research that leverages highly specialized expertise in: understanding the nature and structure of membranes, in terms of the materials used, their morphology, and the configuration employed; identifying and controlling the interactions between the membrane surface, the environment, and the solutes to be separated; the development of a process engineering and membrane engineering approach to model these phenomena and perform scale-up. IEM organized into three scientific departments: “Design of Membrane Materials and Multifunctional Systems – DM3”; “Membrane Process Engineering – GPM ; “Interfaces, Physical Chemistry, Polymers – IP2.” The DM3 and IP2 departments are affiliated with the Balard Doctoral School of Chemical Sciences (ED SCB 459), and the GPM department GPM affiliated with the Doctoral School of Biodiversity, Agriculture, Food, Environment, Earth, and Water (ED GAIA 584). The Bacterial Virulence and Chronic Infections Laboratory (VBIC) (University of Montpellier, INSERM) was established on January 1, 2011, and is located at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences in Nîmes. Since January 2023, the “Staphylococcal Infection Biology Project Team,” located at the Triolet Campus in Montpellier, has joined the VBIC. We take a “bench-to-bedside” approach, using basic and translational research to address clinically relevant problems. Through close collaboration between basic scientists, clinicians, and biologists at the Nîmes University Hospital, we use integrative and multidisciplinary approaches to understand the cellular and molecular basis of host-pathogen interactions and microbial interactions in chronic wounds, and to apply our findings to clinical practice. We are also the National Reference Center for Brucellosis.
