Pix certification

This certification corresponds to a digital skills certificate and is based on a European framework (DigComp). It is becoming the benchmark for digital skills in higher education and all socio-professional environments. Its objective is to support the improvement of the general level of digital knowledge and skills and thus prepare for the digital transformation of our entire society and economy.

The Faculty of Sciences in Montpellier offers an optional "certification" program, allowing students to obtain official certification that is reliable and recognized by the French national education system, higher education institutions, and the professional world, including in Europe.

Certification in the various departments of the University of Montpellier is free of charge, except in the context of continuing education and apprenticeships. It is managed within each department under the supervision of a responsible teacher.

To register, contact your department.

Hyphenation

The gap year allows students enrolled in initial higher education programs to temporarily suspend their studies in order to pursue an enriching personal or professional experience. This break can be taken independently or within a host organization, either in France or abroad.

It can be considered at various stages of a university career, between the first year of undergraduate studies and the final year of graduate studies. It lasts for at least one semester and can extend to a full academic year.

Several types of projects may justify a request for a gap year:

  • Take a course in a field other than your current major to explore other academic horizons.
  • Engaging in civic service or volunteering, in France or abroad (traditional civic service, European volunteering, etc.);
  • Start your own business as a student entrepreneur;
  • Carry out a meaningful personal project, on an individual basis;
  • Gain professional experience, recognized through an employment contract (fixed-term contract), volunteer work, or an internship agreement.

A few rules to know before applying for a gap year

If your gap year project includes an internship, please note that your application can only be accepted for a single internship lasting a maximum of six months as part of a gap year semester.

In addition, the gap year must comply with the academic calendar:

  • it cannot begin before September 1 (official start date of the academic year) and cannot extend beyond August 31 (end of the academic year),
  • You must be enrolled in a university program before submitting your application.
  • The break must end no later than the last semester of the end of this program, regardless of the duration of the study cycle.

Want to take a gap year?

Submit a request to your school registrar. You will be asked to provide a form accompanied by a gap year agreement and the appropriate supporting documents.

TIMELINE FOR REQUESTING A LEAVE OF ABSENCE

  • Annual break or first semester break in France: no later than September 15
  • Annual break or first semester abroad: no later than September 1
  • Break in the second semester in France or abroad: no later than December 15

Tutoring

Tutoring is a support system designed to help students succeed, set up by the University of Montpellier.

Free of charge, tutoring provides academic and moral support to students throughout the year. A true synergy between students and teachers, it allows students to put their knowledge into practice through sessions organized by tutors.

Tutors are senior students who are either in training (trainee tutors) or have completed specific training to become qualified tutors (qualified tutors).

For students, by students, supervised by teachers, tutoring takes several forms:

  • Subject tutoring covers courses related to the institution's areas of training. Sessions take the form of exercises conducted under exam conditions, such as mock exams for PACES students, writing case comments or practical cases for law tutoring.
  • Documentary tutoring helps train students in documentary research and the use of digital tools designed to access and exploit resources useful for their academic career.
  • Disability tutoring consists of personalized support for PASS students recognized as having a disability, through the adaptation of teaching methods.
  • Tutoring as part of tailored programs is for students enrolled in the "yes if" success program. This type of tutoring focuses on work methods and academic support.

Would you like to participate in the tutoring sessions?

To do so, you must be enrolled at the University of Montpellier in an initial training program. You will find all the information you need about tutoring sessions at your faculty, school, or institute.

Would you like to become a tutor?

If you are enrolled at the University of Montpellier for a national degree, you can apply to the relevant tutoring coordinator. To do so, you will need to provide a cover letter, a resume, and specify the type of tutoring you would like to do. You may be asked to attend an interview.

If your application is approved, you will need to register as a trainee tutor for the "Training for Qualified Tutors" option as part of the validation of a university unit or the "Training for Qualified Tutors" university diploma. You will then receive training and complete an internship.
