Tutoring

Tutoring is one of the ways in which the University of Montpellier helps students to succeed.

Free of charge, tutoring provides students with academic and moral support throughout the year. A real synergy between students and teachers, it enables students to put their knowledge into practice through sessions organized by tutors.

Tutors are students in higher education, either in training (trainee tutors) or having completed a specific "Qualification for tutor functions" course (qualified tutors).

For students, by students, supervised by teachers, tutoring takes several forms:

• Disciplinary tutoring covers courses in the school's training areas. Sessions are presented in the form of exercises under exam conditions, such as mock exams for PACES students, and commentaries on judgments or practical cases for law students.

• Documentary tutoring helps to train students in documentary research and the use of digital tools to access and exploit resources useful to their academic careers.
• Disability tutoring involves providing personalized support to PASS students recognized as having a disability, by adapting teaching methods.
• Tutoring as part of adapted courses concerns students enrolled in the "yes if" success scheme. This type of tutoring focuses on work methodology and pedagogical support.

You must be enrolled at the University of Montpellier for initial training. You'll find all the information you need about tutoring sessions in your faculty, school or institute.

Would you like to become a tutor?

If you are registered at the University of Montpellier for a national diploma, you can apply to the tutor in charge. To do so, you'll need to submit a cover letter and curriculum vitae, and specify the type of tutoring you'd like to do. You may be asked to attend an interview.

If your application is approved, you will be required to enroll as a trainee tutor in the "Training for Qualified Tutor Functions" option as part of the validation of a UE or in the "Training for Qualified Tutor Functions" University Diploma. You will then receive training and complete an internship.

Tutor associations

Tutor associations organize a pre-start course at the beginning of the year to introduce newcomers to the university world, and give them a methodology for taking notes and learning courses.

Thematic Digital Universities

The University of Montpellier has joined forces with several Universités Numériques Thématiques (UNT) to develop online educational resources for students.

The Universités Numériques Thématiques (Thematic Digital Universities) pool educational content on a national scale.

UNT's mission is to :

• take stock of existing digital teaching resources in schools;
• produce new resources;
• enhance, index and disseminate these resources;
• ensure the scientific, educational and technical validation of the resources produced.

Economics and management

Association of Universities for Digital Teaching in Economics and Management (AUNEGE)

AUNEGE was founded in 2005 as an association under the French law of 1901, whose members are all higher education establishments.

One of its missions is to make resources available to users according to criteria based on quality principles and a policy of fair distribution and dissemination.

FIED (inter-university federation for distance learning)

The FIED (fédération interuniversitaire de l'enseignement à distance) was created on October 27, 1987, following a proposal by the Direction de l'Enseignement Supérieur (DES) of the Ministère de l'Education Nationale et de l'Enseignement Supérieur in April 1987.

It federates a network of universities that have developed distance and online learning. It promotes the development of lifelong learning and cooperation between higher education establishments in all fields and forms of distance learning.

In addition to its core missions, it is responsible for :

• promote teaching, distance learning, ODL research and new forms of learning;
• promote exchanges and meetings on the subject of distance education and training;
• jointly develop training courses and modules, and exchange teaching materials;
• promote and monitor the use of Information and Communication Technologies in education to produce teaching resources, with a view to sharing, disseminating and cooperating on them;
• share intelligence and expertise on distance education and training systems.

Environment and sustainable development

Virtual University for the Environment and Sustainable Development (UVED)

Created in June 2005, UVED's mission is to promote the use of digital technology for educational innovation in the field of the environment and sustainable development (ESD).

UVED promotes access to knowledge, education and training for all players in the field of ESD.

Health & sport

Digital University for Health and Sport (UNESS)

UNESS covers the disciplines of medicine, pharmacy, dentistry and sports science.

Via its websites, UNESS offers free, open-access access to both traditional teaching resources (pdf, qcm, filmed courses or scientific symposia) and innovative ones (interactive qcm, slideshows with sound and chapters, 3D representations, serious games, simulations) validated by the specialty colleges of its components or taken from the websites of French faculties, by specialty or by year of study.

Université Numérique Juridique Francophone (UNJF)

Formed as a Public Interest Group (Groupement d'Intérêt Public) in 2009, UNJF's aim is to pool the digital resources of its member establishments in the service of legal education.

The UNJF brings the University's scientific and pedagogical backing to all the training courses it distributes and certifies. The courses it produces are developed, designed and kept up to date by the best university specialists with long experience and recognized expertise, most often attested to by the renown they enjoy in their field.
