Winner of the ASDESR1 call for projects With substantial funding of over 3.6 million euros, the Moment-UM project is part of the fourth France 2030 investment plan for the future, launched by the French National Research Agency (ANR). The project aims to strengthen UM's position as a key player in European research, continuing education and innovation, through a number of different actions. Europe Moment-UM aims to boost the participation of UM researchers in the Horizon Europe program (European Framework Program for Research and Innovation). The ERC (European Research Council) grants, Marie Sklodowska-Curie actions and the EIC (European Innovation Council) are the preferred instruments. The aim is twofold: to increase the number of projects submitted and to improve the success rate. In close collaboration with three national research organizations based in Montpellier (CNRS, INSERM and IRD), Moment-UM is committed to increasing the visibility and support of research teams on the Montpellier site, through: Strengthening support staff by hiring new experts. Bio'Occ is a project financed by the French government as part of the France 2030 plan. L’initiative clé internationale Water (INITIATE - InternatioNal InTercultural Interdisciplinary wATer nEtwork) est développée à l’Université dans le cadre du projet UM2030, lauréat de l’Appel à Projets « Intégration et Développement des IdEx et des ISITE » (IDéES). A global alliance for sustainable risk mitigation in a one-health approach. L’initiative clé internationale ‘VECT-OH : A Global Alliance for Sustainable Vector Risk Mitigation in a One Health Approach’ est développée à l’Université dans le cadre du projet UM2030, lauréat de l’Appel à Projets « Intégration et Développement des IdEx et des ISITE » (IDéES). L’initiative a pour vocation de mobiliser et fédérer la communauté scientifique internationale sur les défis clés et les enjeux majeurs liés aux insectes et arthropodes vecteurs et aux maladies qu’ils transmettent aux humains, aux animaux et aux plantes. Le consortium formé autour des Universités partenaires de l’UM promeut une recherche intégrative, déclinant l’approche « Une Seule Santé/One Health » à la prévention et au contrôle des maladies à transmission vectorielle. Il se donne pour ambition de transcender les traditionnelles collaborations bilatérales en identifiant des problématiques transversales à forte valeur ajoutée, déclinables à l’échelle des territoires, et permettant d’agréger bailleurs et parties prenantes pour une gestion durable du risque vectoriel à l’aune du changement climatique. En 2022, le premier atelier a permis d’identifier la question du risque vectoriel associé à la (re)-végétalisation des villes comme un axe privilégié de recherche et la rédaction d’une feuille de route pour fédérer l’ensemble des acteurs sur la thématique dont l’un des premiers points est la réalisation d’une revue systématique de la littérature sur les relations entre végétation urbaine, vecteurs et risque vectoriel. L’atelier de 2023 a combiné des visites de sites sur le terrain pour confronter les protocoles expérimentaux utilisés par les différents partenaires pour le suivi des populations de vecteurs, et des réflexions collectives sur la standardisation des protocoles qui ont débouché sur la co-construction d’une réponse collective à un appel à projets Biodiversa+ mobilisant l’ensemble des partenaires éligibles. L’atelier de 2024 a été organisé en marge de la XXIIIème conférence de l’European Society for Vector Ecology qui a regroupé plus de 450 participants à Montpellier autour du thème « One Health in Action ». Cet atelier a permis de faire un point sur les initiatives locales, de finaliser la première publication commune au consortium, et de rédiger le projet Biodivecity, sélectionné en réponse à l’appel à projet Biodiversa+ 2024. Lors de l’atelier de 2025, nous avons d’abord reçu les acteurs du projet ‘Climate café’ qui a pour but de cartographier les solutions basées sur la nature en ville à l’international et avons pu cartographier plus de 80 de ces solutions à Montpellier. Nous avons ensuite réalisé la réunion annuelle du projet Biodivecity, débuté en avril 2025, au cours de laquelle nous avons pu finaliser les protocoles standardisés grâce à une mise en situation sur le terrain. Les acteurs L’initiative ‘VECT-OH : A Global Alliance for Sustainable Vector Risk Mitigation in a One Health Approach’ regroupe les équipes de recherche de 7 Universités et Instituts de recherche du Nord et du Sud, partenaires stratégiques historiques de l’UM, mobilisées sur la thématique des vecteurs et du risque vectoriel. Tous les partenaires sont engagés dans des projets de recherche collaboratifs et mutualisent leurs expériences, leurs expertises et leurs ressources pour co-construire et faire émerger des axes de recherche innovants et fédérateurs. The University of Montpellier's Research Ethics Committee was officially set up on February 8, 2022. Its aim is to reinforce the mechanisms put in place by the University of Montpellier to promote awareness and application of ethical and deontological principles in the face of questions raised by scientific progress and its contemporary societal repercussions, whatever the field of research. The University of Montpellier's Research Ethics Committee is competent to give consultative ethical opinions on research projects and protocols in all scientific fields, particularly those involving human beings, elements of private life and data relating to human beings. However, projects falling within the scope of Law no. 2012-300 of March 5, 2012 on research involving the human person (known as the "Jardé Law") and its implementing decree no. 2016-1537 of November 16, 2016, and falling within the scope of Articles R.1121-1-1 and R.1121-1-2 of the Public Health Code defining research involving the human person, are, for their part, subordinate to the competence of the Personal Protection Committees (CPP). The LabUM EpiGenMed research program builds on the international recognition of Montpellier's research in epigenetics, (epi)genomics and gene expression, which it aims to consolidate and extend to other fields. EpiGenMed structures collaborations between basic research, medical research and training in Montpellier. It is part of the University of Montpellier's I-SITE excellence program, and is associated with the Biology-Health cluster, in particular the Genetics-Epigenetics axis. The scientific field of LabUM EpiGenMed concerns epigenetics, epigenomics and gene expression, with the aim of studying the determination of cell development, immune defense and metabolism, as well as their links with pathologies. Research in these fields is evolving rapidly, and an important aspect is therefore the development of new technologies and support for their transfer to industrial players in the healthcare sector. Actions PhD Training Networks The LabUM EpiGenMed collaborative doctoral program funds networks made up of three Montpellier research teams for the joint training of three PhD students. Four networks have been set up since 2021. Collaborative projects The LabUM EpiGenMed aims to promote collaborative projects between Montpellier research teams on topics related to genetics and epigenetics. The call for projects concerns projects that address the complexity of biological mechanisms, in physiological or pathological contexts. Six projects funded to the tune of €300,000 for a 24-month period. Proof-of-concept projects The 'Proof-of-concept Projects' funding concerns emerging concepts, or new technological approaches, which are still at a preliminary stage and need to be consolidated. Projects are carried out in collaboration by two research teams. Six projects are funded to the tune of €50,000 over a 24-month period. Events LabUM organizes and supports international events in Montpellier. Prestigious seminar series: 3-4 seminars with recognized international speakers per year. AAP financial support for international conferences: 12 events organized in 2023 or 2024 have received support ranging from €3,000 to €10,000. Today's societies face numerous complex, cross-cutting challenges that call into question the sustainability of our development model and our ability to live together as a society. Environmental, climatic, demographic, political and technological (especially digital) changes are all challenging our lifestyles, development models, production, consumption, work organization, education, healthcare, spatial planning and mobility.... These changes bring both opportunities and risks, particularly for the most vulnerable populations. They are also a source of risks of social, political and economic breakdown, which directly call into question the governance of our societies. Supporting transitions towards new, more sustainable and fairer development models has become a challenge for public players. To meet this challenge, the Montpellier site offers a dynamic environment for high-level social science research in a range of disciplines: economics, law, political science, geography, education and training sciences, management and sociology. The aim of the Key Initiative Politiques publiques de transition (KIPPT) is to boost the visibility and encourage local, national and international interaction between scientists at the Montpellier site whose work in the social sciences is linked to transitional public policies. On the one hand, it aims to federate researchers and structure them into a sustainable network. In this way, KIPPT will help to stimulate exchanges and synergies, and give visibility to the Montpellier site's collective expertise on public policies for transition. On this basis, KIPPT also aims to structure a "science/society" relationship by acting as a bridge between researchers working on transition policies and public and civil society players. To this end, various partners such as local authorities - notably the Occitanie Region and Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole - companies and associations are involved in the project. A broad, multidisciplinary definition of transitional public policies KIPPT supports a broad definition of transitional public policies, around and beyond the 3 pillars of the I-site - nourish, protect, care. It considers public policy, public action and governance from a multidisciplinary perspective. It brings together a number of laboratories from the I-Site's Social Sciences cluster around three main axes: Axis 1: to stimulate exchanges between laboratories and disciplines around key sectoral themes on the site, such as the climate/energy, ecological, digital, agricultural and food, mobility/transportation, health and other transitions. Axis 2: to encourage reflection on the coherence and articulation between public transition policies and integration issues. Particular attention is paid to the cross-cutting issue of inequality, on the one hand, and to territorial projects as vectors of integration to address tensions between sectoral and territorial logics, on the other. Axis 3: address cross-cutting issues linked to the governance of transitions.
