LabUM EpiGenMed
The LabUM EpiGenMed research program builds on the international recognition of Montpellier’s research in epigenetics, (epi)genomics, and gene expression, which it aims to consolidate and expand into other fields. EpiGenMed fosters collaborations between basic research, medical research, and education in Montpellier. It is part of the University of Montpellier’s I-SITE program of excellence and is affiliated with the Biology-Health cluster, particularly the Genetics-Epigenetics research track.
The scientific focus of LabUM EpiGenMed is on epigenetics, epigenomics, and gene expression, with the aim of studying the mechanisms underlying cell development, immune defense, and metabolism, as well as their links to disease. Research in these fields is evolving rapidly, and an important aspect is therefore the development of new technologies and support for their transfer to industrial players in the healthcare sector.
Actions
PhD Training Networks
The LabUM EpiGenMed collaborative doctoral program funds networks comprising three research teams in Montpellier for the joint training of three doctoral students.
Four networks have been established since 2021.
Collaborative projects
The LabUM EpiGenMed aims to promote collaborative projects among research teams in Montpellier on topics related to genetics and epigenetics. The call for proposals is open to projects that address the complexity of biological mechanisms in physiological or pathological contexts.
Six projects have been awarded €300,000 in funding for a period of 24 months.
Proof-of-Concept Projects
"Proof-of-concept" funding is intended for emerging concepts or new technological approaches that are still in the early stages and need to be further developed. The projects are carried out collaboratively by two research teams.
Six projects will receive €50,000 in funding for a period of 24 months.
Events
- LabUM organizes and sponsors international events in Montpellier.
