Desbrest Institute of Epidemiology and Public Health (IDESP)

The Desbrest Institute of Epidemiology and Public Health (IDESP) aims to understand the development and progression of chronic diseases, which affect more than 30% of the population and account for 80% of healthcare spending.

To achieve this, Research University of Montpellier Joint Research Unit is using a new approach that takes into account the broader environment and care pathways through multimodal markers (clinical, biological, behavioral, psychological, social, environmental) and draws on the power of mathematics dedicated to big data.

Its purpose is to devise optimized care and prevention pathways for relevant patient groups. Allergic and respiratory diseases, diabetes, obesity, kidney and vascular diseases, inflammatory rheumatism, and cancers are the focus of the initial models.
