Translational Research on HIV and Endemic and Emerging Infectious Diseases (TransVIHMI)

What sets the TransVIHMI UMI apart is its multidisciplinary approach, whose initial primary objective was to study the specific characteristics of HIV and associated diseases—particularly tuberculosis—from epidemiological, virological, bacteriological, parasitological, clinical, and social perspectives. The unit has expanded its focus to include non-HIV infections—no longer limited to the context of HIV co-infection—as well as neglected and emerging tropical diseases. Consequently, more recent work has led to the development of a new research-intervention focus as part of the response to epidemics (such as Ebola).
