Physiology and Experimental Medicine of the Heart and Muscles (PhyMedExp)

Physiology & Experimental Medicine of the Heart and Muscles

The Physiology and Experimental Medicine of the Heart and Muscles Laboratory, PhyMedExp, is a joint research unit (INSERM, CNRS, University of Montpellier) created on January 1, 2011. It is a multidisciplinary unit focused on the physiology and pathophysiology of contractile tissues (cardiac, smooth, and striated muscles) and their interactions with their environment.

It brings together more than 150 people in five teams and develops a research strategy ranging from elementary structures (genes and molecules) to cells and tissues, and the entire organism.

The five teams in the new PHYMEDEX unit are:

  • Team No. 1: Dynamics of cardiac couplings.
  • Team No. 2: Muscle and Organ Deficiencies.
  • Team No. 3: Respiratory diseases and the environment.
  • Team No. 4: Digestive system: Development and pathologies.
  • Team No. 5: Neuromuscular and hereditary diseases.
