Physiology and Experimental Medicine of the Heart and Muscles (PhyMedExp)

The Laboratory of Physiology and Experimental Medicine of the Heart and Muscles (PhyMedExp) is a joint research unit (INSERM, CNRS, University of Montpellier) established on January 1, 2011. It is a multidisciplinary unit focused on the physiology and pathophysiology of contractile tissues (cardiac, smooth, and striated muscles) and their interactions with their environment.
It comprises more than 150 people across five teams and is developing a research strategy that spans from basic structures (genes and molecules) to cells and tissues, all the way to the entire organism.
The five teams in the new PHYMEDEX unit are:
- Team No. 1: Dynamics of cardiac coupling.
- Team No. 2: Muscle and Organ Disorders.
- Team No. 3: Respiratory Diseases and the Environment.
- Team No. 4: Digestive System: Development and Diseases.
- Team No. 5: Neuromuscular and Hereditary Diseases.
