Bacterial virulence and chronic infections (VBIC)
The laboratory Bacterial Virulence and Chronic Infections, VBIC (University of Montpellier, INSERM), was created on January 1, 2011, and is located at the UFR de Médecine Santé in Nîmes. Since January 2023, the "Equipe Projet Biology of Staphylococcus infections", localised at the Triolet site in Montpellier, has joined VBIC.
We have a bench-to-bedside approach, using fundamental and translational research to address clinically relevant problems.
In a close collaboration between fundamental scientists, and clinicians and biologists at Nîmes University Hospital, we use integrative and multidisciplinary approaches to understand the cellular and molecular basis of host/pathogen interactions and microbial interactions in chronic wounds, and to apply our findings in clinical practice.
We are also the National Reference Centre for Brucellosis.
We focus on the following conditions:
- Brucellosis;
- Opportunistic infections caused by the Burkholderia cepacia complex
- Chronic wound infections
- Staphylococcus infections.
