Max Mousseron Institute of Biomolecules (IBMM)

The IBMM conducts research on biomolecules (lipids, sugars, proteins, and DNA/RNA), which are the building blocks of life. This research, at the intersection of chemistry and biology, contributes to a better understanding of physiological and pathophysiological mechanisms, as well as to the development of innovative tools for healthcare: new, more effective treatments (for cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and neurodegenerative diseases), new medical devices, new approaches in cosmetology, and new diagnostic systems.

The IBMM teams' areas of expertise include:

  • the design of biomolecules and their derivatives using molecular modeling, and their synthesis through more efficient, environmentally friendly methods;
  • the development of analytical methods for characterizing biomolecules and their analysis in biological systems;
  • in vitro pharmacological, toxicological, and biological studies of these biomolecules to validate their properties and select the most promising ones for further development into new therapeutic and diagnostic systems and devices;
  • The IBMM’s expertise makes it a unique research institute in terms of commercializing its research, which has led, in particular, to the launch of two drugs (Macrilen, Sébivo) and the creation of several companies.

Immersion in the IBMM offers a unique educational experience for students who wish to tackle the future challenges of life sciences.
