Report acts of violence, discrimination, harassment, and sexist behavior
As part of its gender equality plan, and to combat all forms of discrimination and violence, the University of Marseille has established an internal support system that relies on designated contacts and a support team composed of a network of counselors. This system is intended for the entire university community, whether they are victims or witnesses of acts of violence, discrimination, psychological or sexual harassment, or sexist behavior.
Here to support you: the advisors and members of the support team
Whether you are a student or a member of UM staff, the UM Support Team is here to help you, to receive your report, and to provide you with support in complete confidentiality. The support team includes the gender equality officer, the vice president for social responsibility, the head of the workplace quality of life department, a representative from the preventive medicine department, the student life department (for students), the human resources department, and UM social service assistants (for staff).
These individuals can welcome you, offer advice, provide information, and guide you—without judgment and in complete confidence.

What is a profile sheet for?
Whether you are a victim or a witness, an internal reporting form for the UM is available below and on the intranet (for staff).
This form allows you to describe what you have experienced or witnessed. It is useful for accurately documenting the facts, and also allows you to keep a record in case you need some time to think things over before taking action.
To complete the form, you can seek assistance from the counselors at the support center, any support staff member at the UM, or anyone you trust.
You may include any supporting evidence you deem relevant (testimonials, recordings, photos, text messages, emails, etc.).

The main steps of the system implemented at the UM
- Report the matter to the designated representatives or other members of the support team, preferably by submitting the report form. In cases of exceptional severity (such as physical violence), anyone may report the matter directly to the President and the Director General of Services without delay.
- The victim is offered a consultation with the support workers or other members of the support team.
- The person or persons who are the subject of the report are offered a meeting with the case managers or other members of the support team.
- Following this, the matter is referred back to the victim. In certain cases of lesser severity (such as an isolated instance of sexist remarks), and with the victim’s consent, the designated representatives may seek a simple resolution to the conflict.
- If a simple resolution is not feasible, the procedure continues with the victim’s consent. The case file is then anonymized (report form + evidence). Depending on the situation, the case is either forwarded directly to the Directorate of General and Institutional Affairs (DAGI) – Support Office – Disciplinary Sections, or it is first reviewed by the support unit before being forwarded to the DAGI (a report of this meeting is then drafted). The victim is informed of the follow-up to the case by the designated contacts.
- If the DAGI determines that the case is unfounded, the agency will explain the appeal process and notify the victim.
- If there is sufficient merit to the case, it is referred to the President. The victim is notified of this referral.
- The President decides how to proceed with the report (requesting additional information and/or notifying the prosecutor and/or initiating disciplinary proceedings, etc.).
- If disciplinary proceedings are initiated, the victim’s anonymity is lifted with respect to the members of the disciplinary committee.
Are you a victim or witness of gender-based or sexual violence? How can you understand what’s happening and get support? Who should you contact?
Because the higher education sector is, unfortunately, not immune to sexist incidents, UM has developed a specific guide to provide the best possible support to victims of sexist and sexual violence.
This guide is primarily intended for them, so that they feel heard, respected, and supported. It is also intended for colleagues, friends, and witnesses, who may also be seeking information to better understand the situation and stand by the victims. Finally, this guide is intended for the entire university community so that everyone is aware that the University is a place where equality is an inalienable principle and that it will have zero tolerance for such behavior.
In this guide, you will find information on:
- what the law says
- the consequences for the victims
- the UM's listening center
- the procedures in place at the UM and outside the UM
- penalties
