Host-Vector-Parasite-Environment Interactions in Neglected Tropical Diseases Caused by Trypanosomatids (INTERTRYP)

The InterTryp Joint Research Unit is developing a “One Health” approach within the broader context of eliminating these neglected tropical diseases. It conducts research at various scales—genetic, molecular, individual, local, national, and regional—to better understand the pathogenic system and assess the associated risks. In the longer term, it studies the mechanisms of co-evolution between parasites, vectors, and symbionts, and mammalian hosts (animals and humans) in relation to environmental changes.

It offers prevention and control methods tailored to the challenges faced by developing countries: context-specific surveillance tools, new therapeutic compounds, vector control, and vaccine research. In particular, it developed the first vaccine against canine leishmaniasis.
