The UM in solidarity with the Ukrainian people

Message from Chairman Philippe Augé

Our university, founded on democratic and humanist values, wishes to express its deep consternation and total disapproval of the Russian offensive in Ukraine. We wish to affirm our full solidarity with the Ukrainian people and our unconditional support for the academic and scientific communities affected by this armed conflict.

Students and UM staff affected by this conflict can contact us by email to be directed towards support services.

In accordance with ministerial instructions, new bilateral collaboration projects with Russia and mobility to Belarus, Ukraine and Russia have been suspended.

We hope that the way will soon be found for the principles that make up our civilization - human rights, respect for others, cooperation, knowledge and its sharing, etc. - to supplant this warlike frenzy, but our concern, in this very dark period for Europe, remains extreme.

Philippe Augé
President of the University of Montpellier
